Miss Babylon's Babblings

Change

Although some would argue that You've Got Mail is purely a "chick-flick," I think that in addition to all the parts that are oh so CUTE (in the romantic, chick-flick sort of way)--there are also some great lines that I find running through my head sometimes. For instance, at one point Kathleen Kelly says something to the effect of "People are always saying that change is a good thing, but all they are really saying is that something you didn't want to have happen has happened." I like that realistic definition of change. I can't tell you how many times people have tried to convince me that "change is a good thing" and I recognize that sometimes it is--but a lot of times it is just plain miserable. Yesterday my little sister went into the MTC-- and that is a change that is going to be pretty miserable for me for a little while! As I walked around campus this morning, I was surrounded by people--and yet I felt lonely. I guess only time will tell how I adjust to the change. I am probably just babbling, as I am wont to do, but--to borrow another line from You've Got Mail--I guess I just want to send these babblings out "into the cosmic void."

Ironically, ever since I posted my first blog I haven't had time to post again--or maybe I haven't made time. I don't know. In some ways I think I might have been subconsciously avoiding it for a few different reasons--and I won't go into all of them since, unlike Bryant, I don't have an underground blog page where I can post the personal stuff. Anyway, one of the reasons has to do with the title of my new website: Miss Babylon's Babblings--I mean what kind of blogs are people going to expect from a person with the screen name of Miss Babylon? The word "Babylon" obviously conjures up all sorts of worldly images in people's minds--images that I would certainly hope I do not personify. So let me give a brief explanation about how the nickname came about . . . One day, as a spur of the moment thing, I went to get a makeover and a massage with my cousin (something I had NEVER done before) and then we came back to her apartment where her friend agreed to give us french manicures (another thing I had NEVER done before.) However, it just so happened that as we were sitting in the apartment--all dolled up--getting our nails done, it seemed like the whole world decided to drop by. We were sitting around talking with the ever growing crowd, when the subject turned to fashion. Someone commented that the Japanese were ahead of the United States in the latest fashions. I heard this, and so I looked up from getting my nails painted and piped in with (ever so innocently, I might add) that Europe was also always a few years ahead of the U.S. in fashion trends--to which one of the boys responded "Alright, Miss Babylon . . ." Although, I tried to refute him--I didn't get much sympathy as I threw my freshly painted, french-manicured hands up in the air in protest.

Hey this is my first ever post! I have no clue what I am doing. I thought I could get into blogging when I was reading everyone else's--because it seems like such a creative outlet. However, at the prospect of having everyone have access to it--I'm suddenly realizing that I am a more of a private person than I ever thought. I guess I'll have to be done right now because Bryant and Jason (who I just called Ronniie--is that a Freudian slip?) are right here watching and I don't want to bore them. Also, I can't write on this tiny high-tech computer that Bryant has. . . I am excited, though, to have the opportunity to take part in "blogging" which is consequently the favorite vocabulary word of 2004. :)
